We all can agree you want a minimum of 1.5 between implant and tooth. What are the risks if it is 1.2 or 1.0. Are they ways to still have success?
Attached is a picture of an immediate implant placement after extraction, threading the needle. In the picture we had 1.5 mm but I know posts with pictures do better lol.

Yes, typically you want 1.5mm to 2 millimeters between tooth and implant however, sometimes in cases where it’s tight, we can’t achieve that. One possible complication can be bone loss overtime, or just rejection of the implant due to lack of blood supply. However, over many cases I have been much less than that with good outcomes, especially if there is more bone towards the crest is most important. The thinner, the ridge and more complex the situation is the less wiggle room you have between those measurements

crest meaning placing the implant subcrestal? does having good bone bucally and lingually also help?

There are several things to be concerned about if not enough distance: possibility of communication with adjacent teeth PDL space or infections, also bone loss from adjacent teeth can communicate with the implant site as well.
That said, I have done several cases that are very tight especially for laterals, that have never actually become an issue. I definitely think that bone thinckness can help!
