When I started my implant journey, I primarily placed implants at the bone level. It was straightforward, and at the time, I thought it was the best approach for most cases. As I’ve grown in my understanding and experience, I’ve transitioned to placing implants subcrestally in many cases—and the benefits have been significant.

Placing implants subcrestally has allowed me to achieve:

      • Better soft tissue stability over time.
      • Enhanced preservation of crestal bone, which supports long-term success.
      • Improved esthetic outcomes, especially in challenging cases.

This journey has been about learning and refining my techniques to give my patients the best possible outcomes. I’m sharing this case to highlight the difference between subcrestal and bone-level placement.

For those of you earlier in your implant journey, I encourage you to explore and adapt as you grow. Subcrestal placement isn’t always the answer, but it’s a powerful tool that has transformed how I approach many cases.

What has your experience been? Do you place implants subcrestally, and what benefits have you noticed? Let’s keep learning and growing together.

      • Thank you for the thoughtful tip Apolinar! Have you encountered any challenges or any negative effects of placing subcrestally? Has it been any more difficult restoratively? Beautiful crowns by the way!
