Building Your Personal Brand as a Local Dentist: The Best Approach
Let’s talk about personal branding as a local dentist. It’s not just about being good at what you do—although that’s obviously important. I’ll argue it’s actually MORE important as a business for people to like you, trust you, and feel connected to you, both inside and outside your office. Here’s how I’ve been building my brand, and maybe it’ll spark some ideas for you too. Most people will auto assume youre a dentist so you know what youre doing so we need to make sure they like you so they o to your office for care.
Social Media: Share Your Story IG @drjordanbrown has almost 60k followers and Tiktok almost 300k.
Social media is such a fun way to show people who you really are. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok—you name it. These platforms let you share a little bit of your world with your community. Here’s what’s worked for me:
-
Teach Something, Show the Behind-the-Scenes, or Spotlight Local Businesses: I created a series called Your Smile Comes First where I visit local businesses, chat with the owners, and share how they’re bringing smiles to the community. It’s been such a hit and builds real connections.
Social media is great, but nothing beats actually getting out there and meeting people. Here are a couple of things I’ve done that have made a big impact:
-
Thanksgiving Pies: This year, before Thanksgiving, I went around to local businesses and even the fire department to hand out pies and say thanks. It’s such a simple thing, but it goes a long way in showing people you care. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DC13fs1Juht/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
-
Join the Chamber: If you’re not part of your local Chamber of Commerce, you’re missing out. It’s been amazing for networking, staying in the loop with what’s happening locally, and getting my name out there.
Why This All Matters
Here’s the deal: people want to go to a dentist they trust. Being visible and active in your community helps build that trust. It shows that you’re not just running a business; you’re part of their lives. You meet so many great people and get to be part of something bigger than your office walls.

I like this approach. Can we dig into how to make these visits a success?
What has worked for me in the past is sending letters to local dentists. In the letter I introduce myself and some of my services that they might not provide.
I have had mixed results from personal visits when I visit other dental offices
Often the front desk is skeptical and the doctor is busy. Skepticism seems to the be biggest barrier.
I have also visited local businesses and that goes a lot better. People are generally happy for a dentist to visit and leave a gift!
@jorbrown can you give us some tips from your experience on how we can best prepare to make personal visits a success?

I personally don’t just pop into other offices, but a lot of other dentist and specialist have stopped by and visited my office in the very beginning. It’s nice when they bring a sweet treat for the team! I’m general though! Probably different for specialists!

@jorbrown You have inspired me man. My sister and I work with my mom and dad in our family clinic. Now I’m motivated to go pay visits to local spots like the fire department etc.
I’m gonna freshen up and get fitted out like you first tho. I usually walk around town with working boots and my t shirt usually have paint or something on them haha
Seriously tho, this is a great idea. I work so much online that I forgot the power of in person visits and gifts!

How much business does it really bring when you visit local businesses? I had recently reached out to 2 local chiropractors that has good reviews on google. Also went to local new specialists. Spent a good 1 hr chatting and leaving gifts. But so far no pt referrals.
If there is referrals eventually, how long does it take for them to call?

@drhannahtsai I would love to think through how to game plan this.
I’ve done brand building in a scattershot way before. I did a lot of stuff and I eventually got referrals.
But I couldn’t exactly pinpoint what stuff brought in the referrals.
@jorbrown you are a likable outgoing guy.
I’m more of an introvert, so it would be easier for me to follow a Brandbuilding Plan so to speak, where I can check the boxes haha
I know it sounds lame—but making it systematic might make it more feasible for some folks like me!

Brand building often doesnt have a noticeable ROI initially. But when they or someone they know mentions they need a dentist they are more likely to refer to you if theyve met you.
