        ridab posted an update

        Hello,

I ran into an issue with my 81 year old Pt and thought if anyone has some insights.

This is my first implant restoration after graduation.

The implants were planned by another GP and placed by a periodontist.

#12 RC 4.1,#11 4.1 RC ,#10 3.3 NC. Straumann bone level. The periodontist placed them 6 months ago and said it is ready for restoration.

I have an itero scanner so I thought I would try the scan body. I talked to my lab and lab tech said he uses mostly Atlantis parts and they are compatible with strumman. With my lack of experience I thought I will give it a try.

I scanned both 12,11 and they were fine. I had difficulties removing the scan body abutment but they came out eventually.

My problem was with #10. The scan body got stuck ( cold welded) the screw came out completely but the scan body couldn’t be retrieved with the hemostat. The plastic top part came out but the metal part stayed. I put some Teflon tape and cavit to cover the opening and let the pt go.

I don’t know what to do to remove the scan body ( which looks like an abutment) from #10 implant. I did some research online and saw ppl mostly talking about abutment retrieval tools and endo ice/ cavitron.

I found that Noble has a general abutment retrieval tool and I’m trying to get another one from neodent.

I’m afraid I’m gonna pull the implant if I apply too much pressure. If I couldn’t get it out, could I cut it with burs? Can I use the scan body as an abutment? The pt is super nice. 81 yrs doesn’t seem to care about cosmetics or anything. I’m even thinking of using Maryland bridge #11 holding #10 .

I already talked to Strumann, Atlantis and noble reps. No solution was offered.

If you reached here, thank you for reading my long post. I attached here some pic of the tools I’m thinking to use and X-rays/ pic for reference

        Thank you!

Ok I’ve had this happen with Neodent a lot. They make a tool to help break the seal called abutment removal tool. I am not sure if the treads are the same. What I would suggest is ghetto as it sounds is to grab with hemostat and use the back of mirror handle to tap the hemostat. That should remove it. It’s the Morse taper that locked it in. If the hitting thing doesn’t work then ask Straumann rep if Neodent has same threading and then order the abutment removal tool, 130.118. Good luck and keep us updated.

Thank you for the feedback. I ordered the neodent tool and will try with endo ice and let you know how it goes.
I will re-scan with straumman scan bodies.

I have a question about scaning. Do I have to scan 1 implant at time or all of them together?
