Very important when doing any type of bone augmentation that you ask yourself where is my blood supply coming from and how can I get greater access of cells to my bone graft material.
You always want to make sure that you decorticate the buccal plate to help stimulate bleeding and allow greater access to cells to feed your bone graft material. Also, when you do your split thickness flap to manipulate the tissue to allow for passive closure you want to make sure that you’re not making your incision too close to the nerve and the mental foramen as not to damage the nerve.

Let’s elaborate on this for a moment… what’s ur preferred way to release around the mental nerve location

I will do a split thickness flap typically at the base of my full thickness flap, but in a case like this on the mandible when i’m close to the nerve I will do my split sickness flap much closer to my initial incision so that way my secondary flap and incision is plenty far away from the nerve bundle that is coming out of the mandible from the mental foramen.
