But that’s really inherent to the patients in our practice because we get referred a lot of peri implantitis or patients with generalized perio. I also find if I can get it under control at the mucositis stage it’s helpful long term. We’re really gentle though and definitely treat them different than teeth. </p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I think for me what happens is there&#8217;s one incident maybe that is not what I want&#8211; a surgery didn&#8217;t go well, or post op complications etc. And then instead of taking it in stride I start to worry about everything more, and of course more things go off. I think focusing on how GOOD you are and how much you care about your patients can really help.</p>

<p>When I was in perio residency, we used about 5-6 systems just to get a feel for them all and see how things differed. But in practice there is so much to consider (price, healing, ease of use for surgical and restorative). </p>

<p>For a female we are trying to wait until 18yo before any implant placement. If you place them too early while they are still growing, the implant can be in the completely wrong position once they are done growing. </p>

However, as a periodontist I often get cases sent to me where they went too palatal and now there’s no palatal support for the implant. 1.5-2mm buccal and palatal is a recipe for success in my book. </p>
